JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Power Systems Engineer will play a key role in the Grid Connections process for current and proposed projects within OX2’s pipeline.  

OX2’s current portfolio includes solar and battery projects with an ambition to also develop wind projects. The Senior Power Systems Engineer will work closely with OX2’s internal teams, including Development, Engineering and Transactions teams, to further develop the current pipeline and continued management of operational assets.

  • Manage generator connection and registration process from initial studies through to commissioning and on-site testing of Solar Power Plants, Wind Plants and BESS, such as:
    • Analyse different generator connection options/feasibility studies
    • Co-ordination with Inverter Suppliers to obtain PSS/E, PowerFactory, EMT models for Inverter and Power Plant Controller as per AEMO and NSPs requirements
    • Co-ordination with AEMO to secure their standard system snapshots and any other system conditions that NSP may request to be studied.
    • Gather NSP data to model the NSP network
    • Network Modelling for generator connections using PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory
    • Perform Static and Dynamic Compliance testing against NER in PSS/E and PSCAD, in line with AEMO and NSP requirements
    • Develop documents that form part of a connection application in Australia (Connection study report, PSDSDS, DMAT, Benchmarking, GPS, RUGs, OEM documentation etc.)
    • Co-ordination with NSPs and AEMO during their due diligence process and lead compliance negotiation with them
    • R2 testing and model validation work
  • Actively contribute to the continued development of OX2’s simulation tools (Python scripts). Support the asset management team in ongoing grid compliance during operation phase of Solar Farms as required by AEMO and NSPs
  • Contribute to development of Ox2’s Market Analysis capability for utility scale generators and energy storage systems, in particular Curtailment, MLF studies and revenue projections.
  • Play an active role and assist OX2’s Development Team with technical inputs in securing and growing the company’s project pipeline in Australia. This includes Wind, Solar and BESS projects.
  • Provide inputs and assist the Transactions Team in achieving financial close and securing partners, funding and off-take arrangements.
  • Contribute to continuous development of engineering standards, systems and procedures for Grid Connections within the company, including the guidance of Junior Engineers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    1. Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
    2. Experience with Generator Connections in the NEM, ideally from a consulting, OEM or developer background.
    3. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders by conveying messages in a trustful and professional manner
    4. Experience with the relevant power system simulation software packages (PSS/E, PSCAD, Power Factory)
    5. Python skills
